themoviedb.org an open source movie database
I signed up for an account on themoviedb.org this evening when I couldn’t find a movie through the XBMC lookup. XBMC uses themoviedb.org as one of the movie lookup sources. It turns out the movie, Stone Cold, existed in the database as Jesse Stone : Stone Cold, but lookups didn’t find it. So I added an alternate title Stone Cold. Stone Cold is the actual title on the DVD I have, but apparently this movie was a made for TV movie turned into a DVD. On top of this it’s part of the Jesse Stone collection, meaning that there are more in the series.
Anyway it’s one more way to contribute to something that helps a lot of people. It’s also possible to upload art and other movie details. Almost as soon as I signed up I was able to contribute (after confirming my email address). Contributions are not accepted immediately, which is a good thing (prevents spamming).
