My work Linux desktop

Thought I would share my Linux desktop from work. I use Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, avant window navigator (bottom) and conky (right). The gnome panel is set to autohide. I removed the bottom panel and incorporated parts of the bottom panel into the top (autohide) panel.

New conky configuration

After a lot of frustration with the weather portion of conky I finally learned that the weather.com script that’s part of the script I was using won’t work anymore because weather.com has decided to commercialize the service. And the cost isn’t cheap – an entire years service of Myth TV listings is basically the same price weather.com wants for 1 month of service (are you nuts?).

Anyway enough ranting. My new conky configuration (minus the weather portion) looks like this:

I’ve turned auto-hide on both of my “panels.” Yes, I’m using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Parts of my script are borrowed from a number of other scripts and scraped together in the following mess:

How did I get Exaile music player and the extra icons? Add the following PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:conky-companions/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install conkyexaile

If you do an apt-cache search conky you’ll notice a number of other conky scripts, including the aforementioned weather script.
