Last year for Software Freedom Day I did a presentation on XBMC media centre. I don’t think I ever posted the slides, so here’s the XBMC presentation.

Movies link
Just a quick note that I have added a new link to the web site with a list of movies we own. The meta-data is not all correct because I used imdb lookups to determine much of the information. For example, some movies have more than 1 DVD or Blueray, but I’ve just indicated 1. Despite looking very nice and having a lot of movies, IMDB actually isn’t that fantastic when it comes to DVD information lookups (scraping). I found DVDEmpire to be a better resource, but only found this over 100 movies in to my collection lookups. More on DVDEmpire and the process in another post.
I’m not terribly fond of the template and will likely change it, but for now it’s a good start.
Yes there’s no telling for taste in movies. Some of these guys were so cheap that I just bought them for something to watch. Now that my time is a lot less I’m not watching as many movies.
This list is really for family and close friends, but feel free to comment (here) otherwise. The movie list isn’t integrated well into the web site, but it might be possible to make the pages behave better.

themoviedb.org, helping XBMC and other media centres
I signed up for an account on themoviedb.org this evening when I couldn’t find a movie through the XBMC lookup. XBMC uses themoviedb.org as one of the movie lookup sources. It turns out the movie, Stone Cold, existed in the database as Jesse Stone : Stone Cold, but lookups didn’t find it. So I added an alternate title Stone Cold. Stone Cold is the actual title on the DVD I have, but apparently this movie was a made for TV movie turned into a DVD. On top of this it’s part of the Jesse Stone collection, meaning that there are more in the series.
Anyway it’s one more way to contribute to something that helps a lot of people. It’s also possible to upload art and other movie details. Almost as soon as I signed up I was able to contribute (after confirming my email address). Contributions are not accepted immediately, which is a good thing (prevents spamming).
