Site update, removed modules

Over the past year I’ve noticed the web site slowing down a fair amount. I chocked most of the slowness up to the fact that we’re on shared hosting (Godaddy), but after looking at external pinging times I’m thinking some of the WordPress plug-ins I was using are causing significant loading delays. I’ve removed a number of plug-ins which might cause some posts to lose information or look bad. Please let me know if you find the site faster or find something that doesn’t make sense or is missing a major portion.

Charles’ Tech Talk claimed on Technorati

I finally joined Technorati, dubbed the search engine for blogs. I’ve heard a variety of stories about Technorati and its effectiveness, but decided to take the plunge and claim Charles’ Tech Talk on it to hopefully increase the readership and encourage more community interaction. To claim a blog on Technorati they make you insert a code like 3HVEQK4Y7NTN and then hit the check claim button on their site. It seems to update rather quickly, despite the ominous “this may take a long time” warning Technorati issues when you start to claim a site.

From what I’ve read Technorati relies a great deal on tagging and ranks sites based on tags. There’s a good selection of spots to enter overall site tags. I entered the largest tags on this site: Ubuntu, Linux, Unity, XBMC, Software Freedom Day, and a bunch others – enough to fill every tag spot.

One thing that drove me nuts was that Technorati wouldn’t let me update my profile. I entered the URL for my web site, changed my BIO, and enetered a byline, but nothing changed when I hit the update button – everything reverted back. It may have something to do with the system I’m currently on.

Problems with comments

Just a quick site notice to let everyone know I removed some comments from the site. This isn’t a reflection of anyone who posted a comment, but trying to track down a problem with the site. I’m also playing with some forum software. I was trying to find something that integrates well with the site CMS, but not happy with my first choice.

Thanks everyone.
