Introduction
This is the parent page for posts about XBMC Media Centre, once also known as XBox Media Centre (latest versions no longer work on an XBox). XBMC is a multi-platform media centre that can connect to home theatre pc’s (htpc) like MythTV. It can use a variety of infrared remotes (we use a Windows Media Centre remote that came with a HP media centre computer originally) and dizzying array of other remote controls that include Wii remotes, Android phones, and other cool gadgets.
XBMC is primarily used for displaying media already on a system, but like Boxee and other systems of its kind it can stream media from different sources (including Netflicks if your a Windows or Mac user – unfortunately Netflicks and Linux don’t love each other). What makes XBMC great is simplicity, yet flexibility of the interface. If you have a remote control with media centre buttons (Movies, Pictures, Music) you get a more spouse-friendly experience.

Google is always anyone’s friend and I’ve found Google especially helpful finding out how to do certain things with XBMC. The project wiki has a lot of useful direction covering everything from installation to setting up XBMC.
